Mary Rose Crook, 85, of Narraganset RI, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was the cherished wife of Robert A. Crook and the daughter of the late John and Mary “Mae” Gormally of Fall River, MA.
Mary's life was a testament to love, family, and community. Her greatest joy was found in the company of her husband, six children, thirteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and her sister and three brothers. Devoted to both family and community, Mary actively participated in her church’s prayer shawl ministry and was a dedicated member of St. Mary’s Star of The Sea Catholic Church.
An accomplished and creative individual, Mary found pleasure in activities such as traveling, needlepoint, floral arrangement, and cooking. A strong advocate for education, Mary instilled a love for learning in her six children, all of whom have achieved master's level or higher college degrees. Her legacy extends further, with five of her grandchildren graduating from three of the U.S. federal service academies.
Born and raised in Westerly and North Providence, Mary earned her bachelor’s degree in textile chemistry from Rhode Island School of Design. Mary married her high school sweetheart, Robert, in 1960, embarking on a remarkable journey together. Over the course of 63 years of marriage, they shared a life filled with love and adventure, residing in Germany, France, and Vermont.
Mary's warm spirit, unwavering dedication to family and community, and her many talents will be remembered and cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her. In honoring her memory, we celebrate a life well-lived and the indelible impact she leaves behind.
