Mary Louise Butler

January 2, 1926 — January 9, 2025

Mary Louise (Tierney) Butler, 99, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late J Alan Butler for 65 years.


Born in Barrington, RI, she was a daughter of the late William Tierney and Lillian Costello. Louise was a graduate of Edgewood Junior College.


Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother William Tierney and her sister Laura (Tierney) Butler.

She is survived by her children, Gregory & his wife Linda, Jeffrey, Marylou, and Brian & his wife Elise Hamann. She is also survived by her eleven loving grandchildren, Allison Carmichael, Sean Carmichael and his fiancée Jessica Maynard, Brittany (Butler) MacNaillias and her husband Colm, Connor Butler, Casey Butler, Austin Butler and his fiancée Johanna DeVries, Meredith Butler and her fiancé Dillon Fisher, Cameron Butler, Brendan Butler, Brady Butler and Annie Louise Butler. She is also survived by her great-grandson Liam MacNaillais and many nieces, nephews and friends.


Her kindness, humor and sassy sarcasm will be sorely missed, but definitely has been passed on to her descendants. No one will be able to replicate her cooking and baking though.


Visiting hours are respectfully omitted per her wishes.


Relatives and friends are invited to gather Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 8:45 AM from the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 114 High St, Wakefield, RI. Burial will follow at the RI Veteran’s Cemetery, Exeter, RI.
