Mary Una (Cronin) Blackjohn, 91, of South Kingstown, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 11, 2018. She was the wife of the late Paul Blackjohn. Born in Attleboro, MA, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Mary (Sullivan) Cronin. After graduating from college Mary served as a registered nurse on active duty in the United States Army. She was stationed at Fort Sam Houston, Texas during 1954 and 1955. Thereafter she was transferred to the Army reserves and she lived in Brockton, MA with her husband Paul where they both worked at Brockton Hospital. After the death of her husband, she moved to Rhode Island and stayed with her niece Diane Rudegeair until moving into Brookdale, South Bay. She enjoyed spending time swimming at the YMCA, reading, and traveling the world anytime she could. She also loved knitting and crocheting and made many items for friends and family. She is survived by her brother Thomas Cronin of Narragansett and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings John, Donald, William, Jerome, James and her sister Josephine Cronin Fortin. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at 9am from the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St, Wakefield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 114 High St, Wakefield. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Peace Dale. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Brookdale South Bay, 1959 Kingstown Road, Wakefield, RI, 02879.
