Mary Ann Cauchon,56 of Narragansett, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, February 10, 2024 after a courageous 4 year battle with pancreatic cancer. Mary Ann was born on May 19, 1967 in Providence, Rhode Island to the late Henry F. and Mary E. (Farrelly) Cauchon. She was the sister of Thomas P. Cauchon and his wife, Dr. Elisa S. Liberto, loving aunt to Christine Cauchon Green (Evan), Peter Cauchon (fiance Becky) and Matthew Cauchon, and the long time companion of Charlie Bibeault.
Mary Ann leaves behind numerous treasured relatives, including her mother’s cousin, Eileen Farrelly, as well as her cousins from the Cauchon, McClanaghan, Farrelly, and Goodwin families.
Mary Ann was the “chosen sister” and best friend of Sheila Halloran McPartlin. She was lovingly known as Auntie Mare to the Halloran Girls’ children Patrick, Jack, Emily, Nathan, Katie, Michael and Liam.
Mary Ann attended elementary school at St. Pius V, in the Elmhurst section of Providence, where she cultivated many long term friendships. She was a 1985 graduate of Classical High School, earned a degree in Elementary Education from Rhode Island College, and an M.Ed. from Providence College in 2000. Mary Ann took immense pride in teaching the fourth grade at Lillian Feinstein Elementary School at Sackett St. for 33 years. She was a very dedicated and nurturing educator who touched and shaped the lives of her many students. She was greatly respected and admired by her teaching peers.
As a child, Mary Ann spent her summers in Point Judith, Narragansett. It was not uncommon to hear the singing of “Happy Birthday” amongst the many members of the Cauchon/McClanaghan and Halloran/Stone families on Coffey Avenue, located right behind St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, where she was a very faithful parishioner. As an adult, Mary Ann made Point Judith her permanent home. One might find her seeking solace on her daily walks along the Scarborough boardwalk while soaking in the sights and salt air.
Mary Ann was a frequent visitor to Narragansett Town Beach and enjoyed sitting with friends at chair 5. She could also be found appreciating the beautiful sunsets on late Saturday afternoons at Sand Hill Cove beach with the “Lah Te Dahs” and their children. She golfed every Thursday morning throughout the summer in a league at the Jamestown Golf Course and was becoming a skilled pickleball player with the “Pickelettes”.
Travel took Mary Ann to far away places such as Germany, Jamaica, the Caribbean, Key West, Las Vegas, Ireland and most recently, to Rome. This was very special to her, as she was able to attend Easter Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City celebrated by Pope Francis. She also enjoyed activities closer to home such as skiing during the winter months, relaxing on Wallum Lake in Burrillville, and many good times on Block Island during the warmer months.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 10 am in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 864 Point Judith Rd, Narragansett, RI 02882. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, from 4-7pm in Avery Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St. Wakefield, RI, 02879.
