Martin A. McSally, 58, of North Smithfield, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2020. He was the husband of Jane (Plasse) McSally, the son of Eleanor (Taft) McSally and the late Bernard F. McSally. Besides his wife, Jane, he is survived by his daughter, Amanda of Crockett, California and sons, Matthew and Andrew. He also leaves his brother, Mark McSally and wife Mary of South Kingstown; brother, Michael McSally of Newton, MA; sister, Mary Kaitlin O’Connor and husband, Stephen of Walpole, MA; sister, Martha McSally of Tucson, AZ; and many nieces and nephews. Before he retired, Mr. McSally worked for many years in the construction industry primarily performing concrete form work, concrete placement, and concrete/steel structure demolition which included grueling physical labor that took a toll on his body. When he became a foreman, he was most proud of being known as “the fixer” and “the closer” because of his ability and reputation for taking on responsibility to resolve unique and complex issues bringing major projects to a successful completion. Martin was a bright man who had an impressive knowledge of historical, mathematical and scientific facts (as well as completely useless obscure trivia), that he could pull from thin air and weave into almost any conversation. Martin was a fan of both professional and college football, often with an instant recall of team and player stats. He was also an avid reader, enjoyed watching real-crime stories, and maintained a ready list of “go to” top movies that he often offered as suggestions. From a young age he was a gifted piano player who could play most songs by ear. Martin found great pleasure from the family he and Jane created with the gift of their three children. He will be remembered most for his kind heart, intelligence, wit, and love of family, sports, and animals. His family and friends will miss him dearly, but take comfort knowing he is at peace and reunited with his Dad and the family dogs and cats he loved and nurtured throughout his life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Martin’s memory to the North Smithfield Athletic Association, P.O. Box 478, Slatersville, RI 02876 for the benefit of North Smithfield team sports where his sons have participated in track, lacrosse and football. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Tuesday, July 7th, at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea, 864 Point Judith Road, Narragansett, RI 02882. Given the COVID-19 pandemic, the church will have reduced capacity and strict adherence to CDC guidelines and masks will be required. Burial will be private.
