Martha H. Johnson, 100, a longtime Peace Dale House resident, died Wednesday. She was the wife of the late Gosta C. Johnson Born in Barkakra, Sweden, she was a daughter of the late Martin and Hilma A. (Rasmusson) Persson. Mrs. Johnson was a baker for the South Kingstown Junior and Senior High Schools. She was a friend of the Wakefield Baptist Church and a member of the Vasa Quahog Lodge in Wakefield. She enjoyed oil painting, ceramics, walking, swimming, fishing and driving, which she just gave up six weeks ago. She enjoyed travelling to Sweden to visit family and friends and also hosted many Swedish relatives here in Rhode Island. She will be remembered as a friend to all. On August 31 of this year a party was held to celebrate her 100th birthday with family and friends and as a gift to her, her granddaughter was married at the party. Surviving are a son, Kenneth M. Johnson of Wyoming, RI, a daughter, Carol M. Stuart of Narragansett, three grandchildren, Sherstine J. (Stuart) Arsenian of Peace Dale, Matthew DJG Stuart of North Kingstown, Hollanie H. Sherlock of North Kingstown, a great granddaughter, Jessica Stuart Arsenian, a brother, Helge Persson of Aftorp Sweden and a sister, Astrid Jonsson of Larod, Sweden A funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 AM in the Wakefield Baptist Church, Wakefield. Burial will follow in New Fernwood Cemetery, Kingston. Visiting hours are at the AVERY-STORTI Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, SATURDAY 3-7 PM.
