Marshall L. Roberts, 93, of St. Petersburg, Florida, died Sunday. He was the husband of the late Marion F. (Wilby) Roberts. Born in South Kingstown, he was a son of the late Clarence M. and Mildred (Willis) Roberts. Mr. Roberts was a dispatcher for the Town of South Kingstown Police Department, retiring in 1984. He was in the United States Navy during World War II, serving on the Submarine USS Cobia SS 245 and achieved the rank of Torpedo Man 1st Class. He was a member of the St. Petersburg VFW, the Downey Weaver Post-American Legion, the South Kingstown Elks Lodge # 1899, the Submarine Veterans of World War II, and an Associate Member of the South Kingstown FOP Lodge # 12. He is survived by three children, Marsha L. Johnson of Narragansett, John A Roberts of Narragansett, and Sherman M. Gingerella of Los Angeles, CA; six grandchildren, Marissa Blumenbaum, Trisha Weisbarth, Tasha Gillette, Niles Roberts, Sherman Gingerella, Jr., and Eric Gingerella; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Jane Capra of West Kingston; his companion Ann Clifford of St. Petersburg, Florida; and four step-children, Meredith Watson of Narragansett, Walter Davis of Narragansett , Wayne Davis of Narragansett, and Keith Davis of Narragansett. He was the brother of the late Milton E. Roberts and Robert C. Roberts, and step-father of the late Sandra Davis and Glen Davis. Funeral services are private and burial with military honors will be held in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to South County Hospital, 100 Kenyon Avenue, Wakefield, RI 02879.
