Mark D. Stanton, 94, of South Kingstown, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 9th. He was born on February 25, 1927 in Charlestown to his loving mother Emeline Stanton. Mark lived a full and beautiful life. From serving in the army during WWII, raising his 8 children to owning his own businesses, including a garage, sewage company and backhoe company, there was nothing he couldn’t do. He was a proud and dedicated elder of the Narragansett Indian Tribe, as well as a member of the Silver Cloud and a member of the First Church of God. Mark also dedicated many years of his life as a maintenance worker at the Point Judith Fisherman’s Co-op and worked along with Robert Shumate at the Pier Ice Plant until the age of 85. Mark is survived by his wife, Persis (Brown) Stanton, his four children; Gayle Hazard of Narragansett, Bradley Stanton (Susan), of Nauvoo, Il, Lorraine Keyes (Dempsey), of West Warwick and Mary Ellen Stanton (Michael), of North Kingstown; his Step children, Persis Clinton, Abdul Muwwakil and John Brown; Brother, Wilbur Stanton (Jean) as well as many grand, great grand and great great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife; Mary (Hazard) Stanton, four children; Robert Stanton, Kevin Stanton, Joanne Stanton and Anthony Stanton, and two sisters, Lila Jenkins and Doris Reels. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, September 14th, from 11 am – 12 pm, followed by a funeral service at 12 pm in Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield. Burial to follow at Rhode Island Veteran’s Cemetery, 301 S County Trail, Exeter.
