Marjory Grace Sill, affectionately known as Midge, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2023, in North Kingstown, RI, at the age of 100. She was born on January 6, 1923, in New York, New York, to the late Turrill and Inez (Haeske)Shonts.
Midge was a strong and independent-minded woman with a wonderful sense of humor. She deeply cared for her family, who meant everything to her.
Midge is survived by her loving daughter, Barbara Sill Sandifer, and her son, David Reed Sill. She was a cherished grandmother to David P. Sandifer, Christine Sandifer Aziz (Mike), Trystan Sill, Taylor R. Sill (Ashley), and great-grandchildren Eveleen M. Aziz and Remy R. Aziz. Midge also leaves behind her nephews Lawrence Gardner (Linda), Kenneth Gardner (Emily), James Gardner (Jean), niece JoAnn Sill LaRue (Larry), and many great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, G. Reed Sill, Jr. and her sister, Elizabeth S. Gardner.
Midge attended White Plains High School and later pursued higher education at the University of Wisconsin. She achieved academic excellence and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Midge embarked on a successful career, starting as a junior accountant at Price Waterhouse. She later worked as an accountant at the National
Advertising Agency where she met her husband, G. Reed Sill, Jr. and as a bookkeeper at Ridgefield European Motors. Midge also dedicated her time as a customer service representative at CBT in Ridgefield, CT.
Upon moving to Wakefield in 1988, she volunteered at South County Hospital for many years. Midge was a member of the Narragansett Bridge Club where she met wonderful friends whose relationships she cherished deeply.
Midge worshipped at Peace Dale Congregational Church. She found solace and community within her faith.
Midge's family and friends will always remember her as a remarkable woman who lived life to the fullest. Her strength, humor, and love for her family will forever be cherished. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
The funeral arrangements are being handled by Avery-Storti Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life will take place on September 23 at 1 P.M. at the Peace dale Congregational Church, 261 Columbia Street, Peace dale, R.I.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Midge's memory can be made to HopeHospice and Pallaitive Care of Wakefield R.I. or The Parkinson's Foundation.
