Marjorie Welker McMahon of 370 Pond Shore Drive, Charlestown, Rhode Island, died Saturday, January 24, 2015. She was 91. She was the loving widow of Thomas J. McMahon, Jr., who died in 1999. Marjorie was born in New Rochelle, New York, and was the daughter of George Reinhardt Welker and Gertrude Fredericks Welker. She worked in the Pelham, New York, school system before moving to Rhode Island in 1974. She worked at the University of Rhode Island before retiring in 1988. She became a volunteer and staff member at the Cross Mills Public Library. She was a member of Saint Andrew Lutheran Church in Charlestown. She leaves four sons—Robert of Stamford, New York; Thomas of Kennewick, Washington; Theodore of Westerly, Rhode Island; and James of Bow, New Hampshire—and two daughters—Georgine of Miami, Florida; and Marjorie of Providence, Rhode Island. She also leaves eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She loved theater, music, and gardening, and she had a passion for animals, particularly horses and dogs. She also enjoyed being on the beach and traveling throughout the United States and in Europe. Marjorie treasured spending time with her immediate and extended family. A service will be held at 2 pm Wednesday in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield. A memorial celebration is planned for the summer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cross Mills Public Library, Charlestown, R.I.
