Marilyn Ester (Hannan) McKiel, 88, formerly of Peace Dale, RI, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Westerly Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Westerly, RI.
She was born on September 4, 1937, in Palermo, Maine, the daughter of Ross and Beatrice (Hall) Hannan.
Marilyn enjoyed playing bridge and tennis, going to yard sales, crocheting and baking. Her specialties included donuts, cookies, pies, pickles and jams. She never found a yard sale where she didn't make a find and seldom missed a daily dose of ice cream. She experienced some wonderful trips to see the world. She enjoyed country music, especially good dancing songs, meeting her soon to be husband at a dance in Troy, Maine in 1953. She loved any gathering of family and friends. She was the secretary of South Road Elementary School for over 30 years. Marilyn was also a volunteer at South County Hospital and the Jonnycake Center of South Kingstown.
Most of all, Marilyn loved her family. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Charles of Peace Dale, son Randy McKiel and his wife Etta, of Vassalboro, Maine, daughter Kathy Faella and her husband Charlie, of Peace Dale, daughter Janice McGovern and her husband Jerry, of Wrentham, MA and son Harry McKiel and his wife Carrie, of Bradford, RI. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Alisha, Elizabeth, Brendan, Katie, Meghan, John, Bridget, Molly, Nicolas, Natalie, Jacob; ten great-grandchildren: Seamus, Morgan, Henry, Madison, Lily, Mason, AJ, Declan, Mila, Evan; her sister Gloria Wood of Florida, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved sister Edwina Rowe.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Westerly Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and Harmony Hospice for their loving care of Marilyn.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, from 1-3PM in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, RI 02879 with a Funeral Home Service to begin at 2:30PM. Burial is private.
