Marilyn Dornberg, 84, died on May 25, 2016, at Brookdale South Bay in South Kingstown with her husband at her side. She was the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Parsons) McAlpin. She was born in Kenton, Ohio. She started her teaching career at 18 with a provisional certificate due to the shortage of teachers at the time. She received her degree from Ohio State University. She taught in several places, including Columbus, Ohio, Germany, Boston and Wickford before leaving the profession to devote her time to raising her daughter. She moved to Rhode Island in 1964 after marrying her husband of 52 years, Professor Emeritus Otto Dornberg. She is also survived by their daughter Natasha Dornberg and her husband Ami Ginsburg of Tel Aviv, Israel and three grandchildren, Yoav 15, Ofri 12 and Sofie 6. Marilyn was an active member of the League of Women Voters and the Kingston Improvement Association. She enjoyed traveling, especially cruises and visits to her daughter and her family in Israel. She loved the theater, especially Trinity and the London stage. Crossword puzzles and duplicate bridge were among her passions. She enjoyed giving parties inside their home in the winter and in their airy outdoor gazebo in the summer and fall. A Celebration of her Life will be held at a later date.
