Surrounded by her family, Marguerite S. Strain, 83, of Narragansett, Rhode Island; passed away at home on February 15, 2013. She was born on December 24th, 1929 in Derby, Connecticut to the late Thomas Joseph Slattery and Mary Cronin Slattery. Marguerite is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Robert F. Strain, and her three children, Sister Mary Ann Strain, C. P., of Union City, New Jersey; Robert F. Strain, Jr., of Narragansett, Rhode Island; and Caroline S. Lang and husband Richard Lang of Matamoras, Pennsylvania. Surviving Marguerite as well are her four granddaughters, Stephanie, Rachel, Julia, and Grace; and her precious great-grandson Jacob. Marguerite was raised in Springfield, Massachusetts. She graduated from Cathedral High School in Springfield and went on to attend Our Lady of the Elms College in Chicopee, Massachusetts where she graduated with a Bachelors of Science in 1952. Marguerite started her teaching career in a first grade classroom at White Street School in Springfield, MA. In 1966 she and her family moved to Narragansett, Rhode Island. She took a position as a third grade teacher at Narragansett Elementary School in the early 1970’s. The Strain family are parishioners of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church. Over the years Marguerite was a member of the Rosary and the Altar Society, a Den Leader for the Cub Scouts, and a religious education teacher. Marguerite was a devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. Visitation will be on Monday, February 18, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. at Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Thomas More Church, 53 Rockland Street, Narragansett.
