Margaret M. Schmidt

Margaret M. (Neary) Schmidt, 90, of Narragansett, passed away Friday, April 4, 2014 at Scalabrini Villa, North Kingstown. She was the wife of the late John J. Schmidt Jr. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Julia (Herlihy) Neary. Mrs. Schmidt worked as a payroll manager for Leesona Corp. for twenty six years before retiring. She was a Radio City Rockette in the 1940s. She was a member of various local civic organizations, enjoyed dancing, walking, and was an avid Red Sox fan. She was the mother of John Schmidt and his wife Mary Sue, Maureen Schmidt, Meg Briggs and her husband Timothy, and the late Robert Schmidt; grandmother of Brian Schmidt and his wife Michelle, Adam Schmidt, Robin Restrepo and her husband Edgar, Sarah Brennan and her husband Christopher, Caitlyn Briggs and Katie Hart; great grandmother of Ellie, Charles, Carter, Jack and Ian and sister of the late Mary Neary and Gertrude Comeau. The funeral will be Wednesday 9:00 a.m. from Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Christ the King Church, 180 Old North Rd., Kingston. Burial will be in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours Tuesday 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to South Kingstown Adult Day Care. 283 Post Rd, South Kingstown, RI 02879.
