Margaret P. Newbold (Prior), 86, passed away at Rhode Island Hospital surrounded by her family on All Souls Day, November 2, 2017. She was the beloved wife of Raymond J. Newbold of Narragansett, RI. Born in Cranston, she was the daughter of the late James and Jane Prior (Doyle). Margaret graduated from Cranston High School and received an Associate in Science Degree from the Community College of Rhode Island and a Bachelor’s Degree from Rhode Island College in Art Education. After moving to Narragansett Margaret was the Religious Education Director at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church. Margaret was devoted to her family and active in her church. She was a Eucharistic minister, helped with flowers, stuffing bulletins and was a member of the Prayer Shawl Group. She was an accomplished artist and seamstress and over the years combined those talents to create alter banners. She is survived by her two sisters Jane Turner of Narragansett, Claire McCue of Riverside, RI, and her brother James Prior, Narragansett. She is predeceased by her brother William Prior. She is also survived by her children and their spouses Kathleen Ross and her husband Craig of Pawtucket, RI, Anne Epstein and her husband Richard of West Long Branch, NJ, Mary Brown and her husband Joel of Saunderstown, RI, Patricia Haggerty and her husband John of Westerly, RI, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was the mother of the late Robert G. Newbold. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, November 6, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 864 Pt. Judith Rd., Narragansett. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Bristol. Visiting hours Sunday, November 5, 2017 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association PO Box 3049 Syracuse, NY 13220-3049.
