Margaret Ellen Lewis

Margaret E. Lewis, 74, of Peace Dale, passed away peacefully on Monday February 15, 2016. Mrs. Lewis was the beloved wife of 47 years to James T. Lewis; a proud, loving, and cherished mother to sons Michael and Scott, and to daughters-in-law Stephanie and Maeve; and an adored and wonderful Nana to grandchildren Susan, Nora, Emma, Adam, and Sean. Known as “Midge” to some family and friends, Mrs. Lewis was born in Fall River, MA to parents John and Irene (Dyer) Whalon; she was a faithful and loving daughter who cherished her entire family. Mrs. Lewis was a dedicated, popular, and terrific math teacher who seemed to be every student’s favorite. She taught at The Prout School in Wakefield for many years, and was awarded the prestigious Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching in the State of Rhode Island in 1993. Mrs. Lewis enjoyed nature and beach walks, a good book, and traveling with her husband and family to Myrtle Beach, Naples, Hawaii, France, Ireland, and more. Two of her favorite destinations were Murray, KY and Vestal, NY, where she and her family treasured her visits. She and her grandchildren enjoyed puzzles, games, and small but memorably important adventures and projects. Margaret was a faithful and sincere Christian who lived her life selflessly. She will be missed dearly, but her loving influence will continue to make the world a better place as her memory and inspiration live on in the hearts of her family and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10am in Christ the King Church, 180 Old North Road, Kingston. Visiting hours are at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, on Friday from 4-7 pm.
