Margaret (McLaughlin) LaChance, 70, of Old Saybrook, Connecticut, passed away on October 8, 2026 after a brief and unexpected illness.
Born in Providence, Rhode Island, Maggie grew up in Matunuck. She later studied at San Francisco College and went on to build a career as a Senior Plan Manager at Voya.
To her husband of 33 years, Matt, Maggie, was much more than a wife. She was his best friend and companion in life. One of their favorite memories was spending three weeks together in the South of France, enjoying the travel, food, and wine while discovering new places.
Maggie had a passion for cooking and loved preparing meals for the people closest to her. Two of her specialties were beef bourguignon and swordfish topped with her homemade pesto sauce. Cooking was one of the many ways she brought people together and showed her love for others.
As a sister and a friend, Maggie had a special ability to make the people around her feel important. She gave her attention and care to those she was with, making them feel that they mattered. If someone needed help, Maggie would be among the first to show up. She was the kind of person who didn't wait to be asked when someone was in need; she was simply there.
Maggie was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Barbara McLaughlin, and her siblings Kate O'Neil, Lisa McLaughlin, and Tom McLaughlin.
She leaves behind her beloved husband, Matthew LaChance; her sisters, Bobbie Fay, Sue Carlson, and Annie Ciminero; and her brothers, John McLaughlin, Pete (Jill) McLaughlin, and Paul McLaughlin. Maggie also leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly and held close to her heart.
Maggie adored her fur babies and always beamed when talking about them, especially her two Shih Tzus, Blake and Max, as well as her two kittens.
Maggie will be remembered for her love, generosity, and devotion to the people in her life, along with the countless memories she created with those she loved. To Matt, she will always be his best friend. To her family and friends, she will be remembered as someone who showed up when it mattered most.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visiting hours for Maggie will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026 from 10 AM to 12 PM with a 12 PM service to follow in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St. Wakefield. Burial will be private.
