Margaret “Peg” (McCarthy) Dineen, 88, of Charlestown, RI and formerly of Longmeadow, MA passed away peacefully on September 18, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas Dineen for 62 years. Born in Springfield, MA, she was the daughter of the late Florence and Mary (Keane) McCarthy.
Peg graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing and received her Bachelor's degree from Springfield College. Peg had various nursing positions over the years. Most recently, she worked as a case manager for Travelers Insurance and retired from CitiGroup in 1998.
Besides spending time with her family and friends, Peg had many hobbies. She loved to ski, making many trips to Europe with her husband. Later on, they enjoyed the winter months at a golf community in Naples, Florida. For many years, Peg was a member of a weekly card group with her dear friends. Peg was grateful for her Walsh Road neighbors, and the great times spent together. She was a true Boston sports fan.
Peg is survived by six children, Sheila Hurley and her husband Tom of Wilbraham, MA, Jack Dineen and his wife Jennifer of Huntingtown, MD, Dan Dineen and Tonia of Suffield, CT, Tim Dineen and his wife Tracy of Wilbraham, MA, Sue O'Neill of Three Oaks, MI, and Meg McMahon of Wakefield, RI; seven beautiful grandchildren, Peggy O’Neill, Danny O’Neill, John Dineen, Ryan Dineen, Maggie McMahon, Grace Dineen, and Seamus Dineen; her sister, Ellen Falvey of Barnstable, MA. She was the sister of the late Mary Sullivan and Jack McCarthy. Peg’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Beacon Hospice Care for their love and compassion while caring for her in her final days.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Friday, October 4th in St. James Chapel, 2079 Matunuck Schoolhouse Road, Charlestown, RI. Burial will be private.
