Margaret E. Cotter

Margaret Ellen Cotter, beloved mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Wakefield, Rhode Island, on the morning of January 3, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.

Born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island, Maggie was one of twelve siblings. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Providence College.

Maggie made her home in Wakefield, where she built a life centered around her family and her community. She worked with the State of Rhode Island in the Office of Disability Determination Services for over 40 years, a long tenure due largely to the wonderful people she worked alongside. Her work was a reflection of her compassionate nature, as she assisted those in need with care and understanding.

Outside of her work, Maggie found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid cook, and loved hosting holiday meals to bring her family together. A passionate gardener, she took great pride in tending to her yard and found peace reading by the beach. These everyday moments reflected her deep appreciation for life's beauty.

Maggie was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Matilda Mimnaugh, and her siblings, Regina, Tommy, Tisha, Ginger, and Eddie. She is also predeceased by her sister-in-law Kathleen Cotter and mother-in-law Shelia Cotter, with whom she held a close relationship.

She is survived by her children, Daniel Cotter of Providence, Rhode Island, and Emily Cotter of South Kingstown, Rhode Island.

Visiting hours will be held at Avery-Storti Funeral Home in Wakefield, Rhode Island, on Monday, January 13, 2025, from 12 PM to 2 PM, followed by a brief celebration of life at 2pm.
