Margaret E. Caswell

July 26, 1937 — January 8, 2021

Margaret E. Caswell, 83, of Wakefield, passed away on Friday, January 8, 2021. She was the beloved wife of James H. Caswell Jr. and they were married for 60 wonderful years. Born in South Kingstown, she was the daughter of the late Mervin H. and Mary (Harvey) Browning. Margaret was a graduate of South Kingstown High School and Baptist Missionary Training School, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Christian Education. She went on to teach first grade in Virginia. After teaching, her and her husband moved back to Rhode Island, and she began her work as an administrator at Wakefield Baptist Church, where she worked for 15 years. She then went on to Church of the Ascension in Wakefield and worked with them for 10 years. Before retiring, she worked at Cross Mills Baptist Church for 10 years. In her spare time, Margaret enjoyed cooking, spending time with her family, and working for the church. Besides her husband, Margaret is survived by her children J. Thomas and Koren M. Caswell of South Kingstown; her grandchildren Jamie L. Caswell of Kentucky, Jessica L. Caswell of Arizona, and James H. Caswell III of Alaska; her great granddaughter Leah Caswell of Alaska; and her siblings Grace Wise of Vermont, Perry Browning of Westerly, Martha McDonald of Greene, and Mervin H. Browning Jr. of Florida. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 10am at Cross Mills Baptist Church, 4403 Old Post Rd, Charlestown. Burial will follow in New Fernwood Cemetery at 11:30am. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Elks Lodge, 60 Belmont Ave., Wakefield, at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cross Mills Baptist Church, 4403 Old Post Rd, Charlestown, RI 02813 or Hope Hospice, 1085 N. Main St, Providence, RI 02904.
