Marcia Grann-O'Brien

November 27, 1940 — September 24, 2013

Marcia Grann-O’Brien, 72, of Wakefield, RI, died Tuesday. Born in Providence, RI, she was a daughter of the late Carl and Olga Grann. Ms. Grann-O’Brien worked tirelessly during her career in journalism. She was the founder of The Three Village Times on Long Island, NY and was inducted into the Rhode Island Journalism Hall of Fame. After returning to Rhode Island, much of her time was spent working with and training reporters at the Narragansett Times, a local paper in southern Rhode Island. When not busy at work, she could be found walking with her dog in the salt marsh past East Matunuck State Beach. She is survived by three children, Colin Schwen of New York, NY, Gavin Schwen of East Northport, NY, and Vanessa (Dave) Schalck of Walkerton, IN; four grandchildren; and her dear cousin, Avis O’Neill of Wakefield, RI. She was the sister of the late Dolores Josephson. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 383 Old North Road, Kingston, RI. Burial will follow in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Warwick. Visiting hours are at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, RI, Friday, 5-8 p.m.
