Major Charles Frederick Lindsley, 94, of Narragansett and Charlestown died September 11, 2010. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth (McDonnell) Lindsley and the son of the late Frederick H. and Jessie (Dallas) Lindsley. Charles was educated at Cranston High School and New York University. He enlisted in the Army Corp of Engineers in April 1937 and was commissioned in August 1942. He served in the European Theater during WWII. He holds nine decorations and five battle stars for Normandy, Brittany, Battle of the Bulge in Ardennes, Rhineland and central Germany. He retired in October 1961. Charles was a steamfitter at the University of RI, for eighteen years retiring in 1980. He was a life member and past president of the Narragansett Chapter of the Military Order of World Wars. His Masonic affiliations include a life member of Hope Lodge, Past High Priest of Unity Chapter 12, Doric Council #7 and Past Commander of St. John’s Commandry #1. He is also a member of Plantations Conclave, Knights of the Red Cross of Constantine and a life member of the Narragansett Bay Chapter of the Sojourners, Marhaba Shrine Temple Guard and What Cheer York Rite College NO. 43. Charles was one of the original founders of the Narragansett Little League and Narragansett-South Kingstown Babe Ruth League. He is survived by his daughters, Patricia (Lindsley) Kenyon and her late husband Karl Kenyon, Elizabeth (Lindsley) Holmes and Roger Holmes, his son, Frederick Hale and his wife Deborah (Youngberg) Lindsley. His grandchildren are Eric Kenyon and his companion, Carrie Bauer, of MN, and Keith Kenyon and his wife Andi (Haggerty) of Westerly and Nathan and Hannah Lindsley of Narragansett; his great -grandchildren, Ethan, Hayden, and Marley Kenyon of Minnesota and Brody Kenyon of Westerly, RI. He is predeceased by his sister, Jessie Dallas Provost. Funeral service Wednesday September 15th at 10 am in Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. Visiting hours 5-7pm on Tuesday, September 14th with a Masonic Service at 6pm. Burial will be in Moshassuck Cemetery, Central Falls, RI. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Home & Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI, 02904 in memory of Charles Lindsley.
