Loyd A. Reposa

June 17, 1949 — October 6, 2024

Loyd Alan “Lanny” Reposa, 75, passed away on October 6th, 2024 peacefully at his farm in Maine joining his heavenly family. Born in Wakefield, RI, he was the son of the late Arthur Reposa and Claire Binns, stepson of the late Ruth A Reposa. He was the loving husband of the late Sally Reposa.

Lanny was a lifelong resident of South County and commercial fisherman in Point Judith, RI where he owned and operated several boats of the Point Judith fleet. He also fished in Alaska even getting the chance to pass the Titanic discovery, and was one of the first captains to introduce freezer fishing to the industry. He embarked to the Grand Banks for a lot of his fishing, remarkably under some of the most brutal and treacherously dangerous conditions (including hurricane Gloria), Lanny always got his vessel and crew back to a safe port without ever losing a crew member.

While not at sea Lanny was a devoted father and family man he enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling and of course he loved the state of Maine where he chose to retire and live out his life.

He was well-known and respected through the east coast during his 65 years of fishing. Lanny was proud to say he never lost a crew member or vessel at sea. His first time in a life raft (with the help of the younger men) was three years ago with his brother Clark after a fire aboard the boat in which they were rescued by the coast guard.

He is survived by his children, Arthur Reposa, Melissa Reposa Sherman, and David Reposa, his beloved grandchildren, Zachary Sherman, David Sherman, and Elizabeth Sherman of Hope Valley, his loving siblings, Clarke Reposa, Teresa Reposa-Curran, Peter Reposa, Robert Reposa, and stepbrother Thomas Egan, as well as many nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces. He was preceded in death by his brother, Arthur John Reposa, sister, Honor Reposa, stepbrother, Joseph Egan, and his beloved niece, Deliah J Curran.

All are welcome to attend a celebration of life on October 20th, 2024, at 2pm in the Elks Lodge, 60 Belmont Ave, Wakefield, RI 02879. We would love for all to attend and share your great stories of Lanny. The family kindly ask that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Point Judith Fisherman’s Memorial Fund.
