Louise Salvio Pickart

d. April 9, 2018

Louise Salvio Pickart, 89, of Falmouth, MA, formerly of Kingston, RI, passed away on April 9, 2018. Beloved spouse of the late Stanley Pickart and devoted mother of Maureen McClure (James), Andrea, Robert (Anne), Dave (Gretchen), George, Christopher (Rachel Fletcher) and the late Cecile (Jennifer Rose). Grandmother of Adrian and Emma McClure, Elyse Pickart-Jain, Jana, Matt, Sarah, David, Greg, Kenneth, Will and Caroline Pickart, and the late David Pickart-Jain. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Louise was a gifted pianist from childhood who received many local accolades. She graduated from Marywood College, PA, and became a music teacher. She met Stan, the love of her life, on a blind date arranged by a friend, and after that there was no separating them. She was a truly extraordinary mother who seemed to draw on endless reserves of strength and verve as she shepherded her rambunctious brood of seven children through multiple moves and adventurous six-month stays in rural England and communist Romania. In her fifties, Louise intrepidly returned to school at the University of RI and became a community ESL instructor and then an ESL teacher in the Narragansett schools. Louise was deeply passionate about everything she committed herself toher 65-year marriage, her children and grandchildren, her political causes, her cooking and entertaining, and her teaching. The memory of her vibrant, vital personality will be cherished by all those whose lives she touched. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Friday May 4th at Christ the King Church, 180 Old North Road, Kingston, RI, followed by a gathering in the parish hall. Burial will be private.
