Louis A. Bruno

September 9, 1943 — December 13, 2020

Louis A. Bruno, 77, of Wakefield, RI, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at South County Hospital in Wakefield, Rhode Island. He was born on September 9, 1943 in Providence, Rhode Island and was the son of the late Louis Bruno and Yolanda “Viola” (Scalera) Bruno. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patricia (Hunt) Bruno, his children Kristin (Bruno) Archambault and Andrew Bruno, their spouses Glen Archambault and Beth Lipari-Bruno, and his five grandchildren Hannah, Katherine, Jack, Isabella, and Myles. Louis was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, cousin, uncle, teacher, mentor and friend, who touched many lives during his distinguished teaching career. Louis was a 1961 graduate of LaSalle Academy and a 1965 graduate of the University of Rhode Island. A longtime Italian and Spanish teacher, “Mr. Bruno” served as chairperson of the foreign language departments at both Cranston High School East and The Prout School, and he chaperoned numerous student trips to Italy and Spain. He served as an executive board member of the Rhode Island Teachers of Italian, was an original co-author of the National Italian Exam, and was a recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship. He was a founding board member of the Katie DeCubellis Memorial Foundation. Louis was an active member of Saint Ann’s Church in Cranston, where he served as a religious educator and eucharistic minister and, more recently, was a communicant of Saint Thomas More Church in Narragansett. Lou was a lifelong avid Yankee fan who counted many Red Sox fans as lifelong friends. He was blessed with a booming singing voice, an encyclopedic knowledge of popular music, maintained a comprehensive movie collection, and was an enthusiastic but lousy golfer. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the American Heart Association. Due to COVID restrictions, funeral services will be live-streamed at 10:00AM on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 on the Saint Thomas More, Narragansett, RI website https://stthomasmoreri.org/. Burial will be private. A public memorial service will be held at a later date.
