Lorien A. Murray (Petteys), 43, of Narragansett, passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at home. She was the wife of James A. Murray for 13 years. Born in Niskayuna, NY, she was the daughter of Dennis A. Petteys of Talkeetna, AK and Mary A. Fulton of Wakefield. Lorien had many close friends and family. Despite her illness, Lorien remained actively involved in her community. She supported her children’s many athletic activities that included horseback riding, karate, baseball, basketball, and football. She was an active volunteer with the PTO at both the Narragansett Elementary and Pier schools. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years. She helped raise thousands of dollars to fund cancer research through “Team Lorien”. Her giving and loving spirit enriched everyone’s lives around her. Besides her husband and parents she is survived by her children, Alanna and Ian Murray; her step-son, Sean Murray, currently serving in the Persian Gulf with the US Navy; two brothers, Dennis Petteys of Santa Cruz, CA and Jeremy Petteys of Long Creek, SC and her paternal grandmother, Lorraine Petteys of Boca Raton, FL. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at 10 AM in St. Peter’s by the Sea Church, Central St., Narragansett. Burial will follow in R.I. Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours are Tuesday, December 27, 2016, 3-7 pm in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Murray Childrens Fund, P.O. Box 273, Narragansett, RI 02882.
