Leslie F Thompson of Wakefield, RI, passed peacefully in the company of his family on September 5, 2015 at South County Hospital. He was the husband of Portia (Smith) Thompson to whom he was married for fifty-eight years. Born in Cambridge, MA to Leslie F Thompson and Florence L (MacQuarrie) Thompson the family settled in Warwick, RI. He was graduated from the University of Rhode Island and received his Master's Degree from Union College in Schenectady, NY in 1964. Returning with his family to Warwick, they settled in the Greenwood area where he coached baseball for the Continental Little League and basketball for the Greenwood Community Church. Les served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves was a life member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and a long standing member of Rotary Joining the Rotary more than 50 years ago and moving to South County, he particularly enjoyed participating in the annual Wakefield Rotary Balloon Festival during his time there. In 1990 he applied his business education and experience to developing his own company Anchor Staple and Nail Co. in Wakefield, RI. He is survived by his wife Portia and their children; daugher Laura Furlong(David) and grandsons Miles and Cameron; daughter Cheryl Hilfer Gingerich and grandsons Linnhardt, Jan and Thomas Hilfer and Luke Gingerich; son John Thompson (Maris Abbene) and grandson Nathaniel Thompson; son Andrew Thompson( Marianne) and grandchildren Samantha and Scott. He is also survived by his sister Nancy Fearing of Falmouth Maine and nephew Stephen Fearing. In lieu of flowers gifts may be made to the Wakefield Rotary "Charitable Foundation". Visiting hours will be held at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street in Wakefield on Wednesday September 9,2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm to be followed immediately at 7:00 pm by a Celebration of Life Service. Burial will be private.
