Lesley Anne Crook Henderson

Lesley Anne Crook Henderson died on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at South Bay Manor. She was born in Providence, Rhode Island on May 23, 1928, the daughter of the late Frank F. and Beatrice Briden Crook. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bancroft W. “Buzz” Henderson, her complete love, joy and companion. Mrs. Henderson was a graduate of the Mary C. Wheeler School in Providence, Rhode Island and Bradford College in Haverhill, Massachusetts. She worked in the Memorial Hospital in Pawtucket, Rhode Island and later took further extension courses at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. She and her husband were avid New England boaters aboard their Hatteras “Lamb Chop”, and were also successful breeders of Shropshire sheep, winning top honors with the champion flock at the Chicago International Livestock Show. While in Rhode Island, she was for 12 years a volunteer keeping the records in the Operating Room of the South County Hospital, Wakefield, Rhode Island. She was a former member of the Wannamoisett Country Club of Rumford, Rhode Island and Point Judith Country Club, the Point Judith Yacht Club and the Dunes Club, all of Narragansett, Rhode Island. She and Buzz traveled all over the world – Europe and England many times, the Orient, Turkey, India and the Middle East. Their many trips were not only for pleasure but also for teaching. In 1982 they retired to Vero Beach from Rhode Island and joined the Vero Beach Boat Club and the Vero Beach Yacht Club. In the Yacht Club she served on the Board of Directors, was President of the “Shipmates”, the Editor of the Club paper, “The Siren” and was an auxiliary member of the International Order of Blue Gavel (Past Commodores). Lesley believed “the most wasted day of all is one in which we have not laughed and loved”. She is survived by her children, Frank Crook Long of Camden, ME; Robert A. Long of Boston, MA; Mary Jane Long of Wakefield, RI; Bancroft W. Henderson, III of Ashville, NC; Roderick Henderson of Warwick, RI; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vero Beach Humane Society, P.O. Box 644, Vero Beach, FL 32961; St. Mark Anglican Church, 1795 45th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32967 or to the charity of ones choice. A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated on Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Peters By- the- Sea Episcopal Church, 72 Central Street, Narragansett, Rhode Island. Interment for Buzz and Lesley will be in the Memorial Garden at St. Mark’s Church at a later date.
