LeRoy W. Palmer II passed away peacefully after a brief illness on January 14, 2022. LeRoy was born in Wakefield on August 11, 1939, at South County Hospital to the late Lewis Palmer and Margaret (Tucker) Palmer. Following high school, LeRoy enlisted in the US Navy where he proudly served on the U.S.S. CHARLES H. ROAN as a Third-Class Boatswain. He then joined the Merchant Marines where he spent his career traveling the world on tanker ships and freighters. Roy, as he was known by friends and family, enjoyed telling stories of his worldly travels. He was very versed in local South County History as well as World History and considered himself a true “Swampa.” Roy spent thirty plus years of retirement boating, fishing, and hunting. He was often found fishing in the waters off Matunuck Beach in his boat the “Salt Shaker.” In his later years, he could be found working in his yard and was very proud of his residence and adored his rose garden. On a regular basis Roy could be found at Tuckertown Park running his English Setter, Patch. Patch was his best friend and by his side until the end. Roy was a unique, interesting, generous, and gentle man and he will be sorely missed. Roy is survived by his stepsons Paul Boisclair of Wakefield, RI, and Stephen Boisclair of Voluntown, CT. There will be a graveside ceremony on January 22, 2022, at 10:00am at Riverside Cemetery in Wakefield. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations in his name to be made to the Animal Rescue League in Wakefield, RI.
