Leopold F. Hofinger, 95, of South Bay Manor, died Wednesday at the Manor. Born in New York, NY, he was the son of the late Rudolph and Elizabeth (Werner) Hofinger. He was the husband of the late Myra (Chase) Hofinger for fifty years and the late Isabelle (Lyman) Hofinger. Mr. Hofinger was a Lt. Col in the U.S. Army for over twenty five years serving in W.W. II and Korea before retiring. He then went to work for the Department of Civil Defense. His military service began with the ROTC program at Rhode Island State College now U.R.I. He was commissioned to Ft. Adams in Newport, RI. He went on to serve in Australia, Alaska, Japan, Greenland, Korea and other posts in the United States. He traveled to China, Africa, Costa Rica, New Zealand, Hawaii, Russia, Italy, most of Europe and Antarctica. Besides traveling he enjoyed, golf, bowling, reading, cooking, collecting stamps and coins. He was a long time Boy Scout, member of Hope Lodge 25, The Shriners, Order of Eastern Star and Perryville Grange. A memorial service will be held Tuesday November 16th at 11:00 AM in the Peace Dale Congregational Church, 261 Columbia St., Peace Dale. A celebration of Leo's life is planned for the spring.
