Leonida Stewart

April 22, 1927 — August 1, 2018

Leonida (Silva) Stewart, age 91, of Narragansett, died peacefully on August 1, 2018. Born in Central Falls, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Isabel Silva. She was the beloved wife of the late Alexander J. Stewart. Lee is survived by her four children, Rosemary Lightbown, and her husband Martin, of South Kingstown, Thomas, of North Attleboro, MA, John of Narragansett, and Robert, and his wife Melanie, of Jacksonville, FL. She was the devoted and cherished grandmother to Sarah Fleury, Carin Cook, TJ Stewart, Molly Stewart, and Abigail Stewart and great-grandmother to Henry, Charles, Owen, Martin, John, and Jane. She leaves several nieces and nephews. She was the mother-in-law of the late Paula Stewart. She was pre-deceased by all her siblings, Claudio Silva, Mary Monaghan, Joanna Brousseau, Angela Paquin, Rose Silva, John Silva, Cecilia Silva, and Manuel Silva She was a Pawtucket resident before moving to Narragansett in 1980. Lee worked at Consolidated Freightways until her retirement in 1989. In retirement, she enjoyed traveling, knitting, reading, cross stitch, playing cards, sharing a cup of tea with friends, volunteering, and most of all being with her family. Her family was her greatest love and brought her much joy. She was talented and creative, a woman who truly loved people. She will be sadly missed and forever loved by all who were lucky enough to know her. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 10:30 am at St. Mary's Star of the Sea, Narragansett, RI, followed by burial in the Rhode island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. The family will greet guests from 9:30-10:30 at the church prior to the Mass In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the South County Museum. www.southcountymuseum.org
