Leo Michael Mcgovern

Leo M. McGovern, 88, of Matunuck, died Thursday. He was the beloved husband of Patricia (Keegan) McGovern for 64 years. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Michael and Rose (Gilligan) McGovern. Mr. McGovern retired from Narragansett Electric as Head Lineman and served honorably with the US Army Air Corp during WW II. He will be remembered for his great story telling and Irish wit. Besides his wife he is survived by four children, Dennis McGovern of California, Maureen Hart of Poccatello, Idaho, Donna Dolan of Matunuck and Kathleen McGovern of East Greenwich; four grandchildren, John Dolan, Jr., Kelly Dolan, Michael Dolan, and Keegan Hart. He was the brother of the late Rosella Simmons, Mae Sandstrum, John, Edward and Joseph McGovern. The funeral will be 8:45 AM Monday from the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Romuald Chapel, Atlantic Avenue, Matunuck. Burial with military honors will follow in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours are Sunday 2-5 PM.
