Lawrence Hiawatha Stanton

July 2, 1933 — May 16, 2010

Lawrence Hiawatha Stanton, 76, of Railroad Ave, North Kingstown, died Sunday at South County Hospital. He was the husband of Chiyoka Stanton for fifty four years. Born in South Kingstown, he was the son of the late Albert L. and Helen (Fayerweather) Stanton. Mr. Stanton was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean War. He was a Nuclear Pipe Welder at Electric Boat for fourteen years, Superintendent at Combustion Engineering for eighteen years, Inspector for American Welding Society for twenty one years, and a Building Inspector for the Narragansett Indian Tribe and the State of Rhode Island. Mr. Stanton enjoyed hunting and was a member of the Narragansett Indian Tribe. He was also a member of Local 777 United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters and the American Legion Post of North Kingstown. Besides his wife he leaves, sisters Alberta H. Wilcox of North Kingstown, Mary S. Brown of Falls Church, VA; brother, Ellsworth D. Stanton of North Kingstown; three nephews , two nieces and many cousins and friends. He was brother of the late Albert L. Stanton Jr. and Lucille C. Dawson. The funeral will be Thursday at 10:00 AM in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. Burial with military honors will be in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours Wednesday 6-8 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Narragansett Indian Church, P.O. Box 1513, Charlestown, RI 02813.
