Lawrence Vincent Larry Mcmurrer

September 5, 1931 — December 13, 2015

Lawrence “Larry” Vincent McMurrer, 84, of West Hartford, CT formerly of Wakefield, RI passed away December 13, 2015. He was the beloved husband of Carol Jeanne (Othote) McMurrer for 60 years. Born in Cambridge, MA he was the son of the late James Francis and Mary E. (Sullivan) McMurrer. Mr. McMurrer was a First Lieutenant in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. He worked as a Senior Sales Rep for IBM from 1957 – the early days when one computer filled most of a room - until retiring at 55. His lifelong love of fishing and hunting, vegetable gardening and tending to Macintosh apple trees, camping with the kids, and taking off into the clear blue skies in a single engine Cessna, brought him joy and fulfillment. He and Carol travelled our highways and byways from RI to AZ many winters, visiting family and friends along the way. As Boy Scout leader, Narragansett Council, Larry shared his love of nature, survival techniques and campfire stories during many Camp Yawgoo excursions. Larry and Carol attended daily Mass at the URI Catholic Center, serving in a variety of volunteer roles, and he spent many hours completing New York Times crossword puzzles. Larry was the loving father of Kathleen “Katie” Ann Huntington of Newcastle, ME, Eileen McMurrer of West Hartford, CT, the late Robert “Bob” Patrick McMurrer and his wife Susan of Georgetown, TX; brother of Joseph McMurrer of Haverhill, MA, John McMurrer of FL and MA, the late James McMurrer, Mary Patricia Bashford and Barbara Sullivan; grandfather of Asher, Peter and Luke Huntington, Michael Webster, Liah and Aidan Kaminer and the late Sean Patrick McMurrer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Church, 180 Old North Rd., Kingston. Visiting hours Friday, December 18, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Peace Dale.
