Lawrence Larry Caswell

February 6, 1947 — July 25, 2013

Lawrence (Larry) Caswell, 66, of South Kingstown, died peacefully on Thursday, July 25, 2013 after a valiant battle with cancer. He was the loving husband and best friend of Merry (Stanley) Caswell, and they recently celebrated their thirty-second wedding anniversary. Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Homer S. and Deborah (Campbell) Caswell. He was a standout athlete in basketball and football at Tolman High School, and he graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 1970. At URI he played quarterback for the football team, set team, conference and national records, and he was inducted into the URI Athletic Hall of Fame in 1992. Larry was an educator, high school and college coach, and professional football scout. He also coached his children in various sports in Narragansett and South Kingstown leagues. He is a member of the RI Football Coaches Hall of Fame. He leaves behind his four children whom he adored, Matthew, Courtney, Alicia and Emily. He was also the father of Beth Ann McCrae and the late Rory and Ryan Caswell. He was the brother of Janet McIntosh and Joan Williams and the late Kenneth Caswell. He also leaves several nieces and nephews, and brothers and sisters-in law. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, RI 02879. At his request, the funeral and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Caldwell College Women’s Basketball Team, 120 Bloomfield Avenue, Caldwell, NJ 07006.
