Kurt T. Kalberer, 72, formerly of Lincoln, Rhode Island and Highland Beach, Florida, died peacefully on Friday, April 11th surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Carole (Senn) Kalberer for 51 years.
Kurt was born on March 25, 1953 in Warwick to M. Madeline (Schneider) Kalberer and Otto F. Kalberer. He attended Bryant University prior to joining his family’s manufacturing company, Industrial Machine Corporation, in Georgiaville, Rhode Island. Co-founded by his father Otto and grandfather Adolph Kalberer, Industrial and its predecessor entities contributed significantly to the U.S. defense industry and was a leading manufacturer of high-precision components for weaponry for the U.S. Navy. Kurt later became an executive at Industrial and pursued many business ventures in the real estate and technology industries as an entrepreneur.
Kurt’s passion was sailing with his family. He cruised his yacht Tiara II (affectionately named after his daughters Tiffany and Tara) extensively throughout New England for over thirty years. He was a former member of Kirkbrae Country Club, East Greenwich Yacht Club and Newport Yacht Club.
He is survived by his wife, Carole, two daughters, Tara Ashe and Tiffany McClanaghan, his son, Kurt T. Kalberer II, three grandchildren, Iris and Harrison McClanaghan and Michayla Ashe, his sisters Linda Gaffney of Narragansett and Donna Scanlon of Cohasset, Massachusetts, and brothers, Dennis Kalberer of Pawtucket, Rhode Island and the late Jeffrey Kalberer of Lincoln.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday,10:00 AM at St. Thomas More Church, 53 Rockland Street, Narragansett, Rhode Island. A Celebration of Life will be held this summer at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Kurt's name to Save the Bay or to the American Heart Association.
