Kathleen Mary Halavik, passed away at home in Richmond, Rhode Island on August 22, 2020, after a brief illness. Kat, as she was known to friends, was born October 3, 1950 at the Quonset Point Naval Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Anthony and Kathleen Halavik, growing up in North Kingstown. She is survived by her brothers Thomas (and his wife Barbara) of South Kingstown, Nick (and his wife Debbe) of North Kingstown, and her nephews Byron and Kyle. Kat also leaves behind her beloved cat Felix. Kat graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and worked for many years at India Imports in Providence. She worked at the Newport Naval War College in the Human Resources Department and as a dispatcher for the Navy Fire and Rescue Department for the majority of her career. She loved and appreciated the simple things in life: attending Catholic Mass on a Sunday morning, spending time with her family and friends, shopping for great sales at brick-and-mortar stores, or just spending a quiet afternoon with Felix and a good book. Throughout her life, Kat was a devoted sister and a caring friend. She loved to help others, whether it was babysitting family dogs, accompanying friends to doctor appointments or giving back to those in need through various charity programs at Christ the King Parish, where she was a parishioner. Kat had a heart of gold and will be truly missed by all of us who knew and loved her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 28, 2020 at 11am in Christ the King Church, 180 Old North Road, Kingston. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish to join in remembering Kat, please consider a donation to your favorite animal shelter or Christ the King Parish in Kingston, Rhode Island.
