Kathleen Rose Byrnes, born June 7, 1924, of Kingston, RI, died peacefully September 22 at South County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. Kathleen was recognized and awarded for her paintings throughout the region, and much appreciated by her students, and an inspiration to all who knew her. She received degrees from RISD and Columbia University and retired in 1985 from the East Greenwich school system as Supervisor of Art and Music. Kathleen was a co-founder of the East Greenwich Art Club and of the West Bay Gallery, and belonged to several clubs, including the Providence Art Club, the RI Watercolor Society and the South County Center for the Arts. Kathleen is survived by her long-time friend, Lane Stanley, as well as 12 nieces and nephews and 19 grandnieces and grandnephews. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, September 26, from 5-7 p.m. at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, Wakefield.
