Kathleen A. Bruen

Kathleen A. Bruen (McNulty), 69, of Wakefield, passed away on Friday, February 1, 2019, at home. Born in Providence, the daughter of the late Joseph W. and Fern M. (Hyde) McNulty. She was predeceased by two sisters, Sandra M. Richards formerly of Narragansett and Dorothea A. Blessington formerly of Cranston. Kathleen is survived by her husband Peter F. Bruen of 45 years; her beloved son, Peter Sean and his wife Debra R. Bruen, and her treasured granddaughters, Cassidy Haley and Mackenzie Renee Bruen all of Baldwinsville, NY; her brother, Terrence M. McNulty of Clearwater, FL; several nieces; and several great nieces and nephews. She attended Johnson & Wales Jr. College, was a member of Alpha Omega Phi. She began her work career at the brokerage firms of Brown, Lisle and Marsh and Paine Webber. She worked for the Director of Communications for the City of Providence during the implementation of the Statewide "911" Emergency; worked for the Providence Police Department as a Dispatcher for 7 years; retired from the Town of Narragansett after 22 years, where she held the positions of Deputy Town Clerk and Clerk of the Probate Court working under the auspices of the standing Judge and ended her work career at the University of Rhode Island Department of Communications & Marketing. Kathleen was a certified member of the International Institute of Professional Municipal Clerks, recognized in 2003 for exercising leadership in establishing the professional precepts of the organization. Accredited in the General, Public and State Laws in the Probate of Wills, Administration and Guardianship practice. She served as an Executive Board Member of the Rhode Island Council 94, AFSCME, AFL-CIO; she was a voting member, representing RI Council 94 (1990-1994) on the Narragansett Pension Board; served as recording clerk from 1990-1994 and served as Clerk of the Boards, Zoning, Planning and Conservation for the Town of Narragansett. Kathleen was an avid reader, a disciplined lover of history, a "talk show" junkie and was impassioned in her daily quest of current events locally and trends worldwide. She held an unwavering & moral dedication to the highest standards of ethics. Her greatest devotion and love was to her beloved family and faith. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at 10 am in St. Thomas More Church, 53 Rockland St., Narragansett. Burial will follow in R.I. Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Visiting hours are at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, Monday, February 4, 2019, 5 8 pm. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Michael the Archangel Church, 239 Oxford St., Providence, RI 02905.
