Kathleen F. Bourret

May 17, 1931 — February 7, 2025

Kathleen Frances Bourret passed away peacefully with her family by her side on February 7th, at the age of 93. Known to most as "Kay," she was born in Providence, RI to Catherine Frances Fitzpatrick from Ireland but was raised by Edith Lowenstein, who treated her as her daughter. In her childhood, Kay was known by many names, including "Til" and "Tilly." She graduated from Cranston High School, met her husband Nelson, married in 1951, and raised three children: Edward Bourret and his wife Patricia of Las Vegas, NV; Lee Ann Quinn and her husband Kevin; and Mary Hickey and her late husband Jack (John), both from Wakefield. Gram (Kay) is survived by two grandchildren, Jonathan Quinn and his wife Kathleen from West Kingston, and Joshua Quinn and his wife Erin from Palm Coast, FL. Additionally, Grama-Kay leaves behind four great-grandchildren, Suanna-Kay, Sterling, Maeve, and Bridget Quinn. Gram also leaves her 4-legged grandchildren she always cherished from her own to her grand-dogs- Leisel, Lilibet, Nelson, and Stanley, they will miss her treats as she made sure they were well fed! Kay also had many nieces and nephews that she cherished as her own.

Kay’s warmth and hospitality shone through in her love for cooking and hosting gatherings, creating cherished memories for all who knew her. She and her husband loved to host the annual “Fish Fry” at the Bourret home in Wakefield. During her time in Rhode Island, she dedicated herself to various volunteer services, including serving as one of the first female deacons at Peace Dale Congregational Church. She also volunteered for Meals on wheels and was past president of the Indian Run Garden Club which she dedicated her service to the beautification of our community in South Kingstown and Narragansett RI. She taught many the nature and beauty of planting perennials and flower arrangements. We all loved those times with Kay. She was also involved with the garden club that published a club cookbook that she was proud to contribute. She was so talented in holiday decorating and arrangements that many of us still do and remember her for that gift.

After her husband Nelson retired, they moved to Florida and there she continued her volunteer work and social involvement this time with the “Red Hats.” She grew new friendships and celebrated every stage of her life. Up until December of 2023 Kay lived independently with the help of good friends Todd and Mindy Watson.

Funeral is private. Burial will take place in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to our dear friend and guardian angel Marth Kauffman for her help during Mom’s final days as well as the staff at Hope Health and Hospice.
