Kathleen Alden, 83, of Charlestown and a longtime former resident of Narragansett, died Saturday at the Clipper Home in Westerly. She was the wife of the late John Alden. Born in Edinburgh Scotland, she was the daughter of the late William and Janet (Hutson) Moran. Mrs. Alden attended Bellahouston Academy in Glasgow, Scotland, Miss Pettit’s Business School in London and the London College of Music. During W.W. II she served in the British Army Signal Corps and came to this country in 1946 as an English war bride. She worked as a clerk at South County Pharmacy for over 20 years before retiring. After retiring she owned and operated with her husband Mayflower Antiques. She was a member of St. Peter’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, South County Book Club, General Federation of Women’s Clubs of South County, Southern New England Antique Dealers Association, a volunteer at South County Hospital and Charlestown Chamber of Commerce. She enjoyed reading, music and bridge. She is survived by a son, John Alden Jr. and his wife Margaret of Westerly and a daughter, Janet P. Alden of Charlestown; grandchildren, Rebecca M. Cerutti and her husband Jeffrey, Kathleen A. Fagan, Atty. John M. Alden and his fiancé Beth Goudey, LCDR Joseph W. Alden, USN and his wife Gwendolyn and great grandchildren, Gabriella and Nicholas Cerutti, Eleanor, Allyson and Ensley Alden, Noah, Alexander and Timothy Fagan and four nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Dorothy Harrison, Mary Allix and William Moran The funeral will be held Tuesday at 10:00 AM in St. Peter’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, 72 Central St., Narragansett. Burial will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Peter’s by-the-Sea.
