Justine Paasche Greenwell, 99, of Wakefield, RI, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 28, 2026, at her residence, just shy of her 100th birthday. She was a devoted mother, beloved grandmother, great-grandmother and cherished friend.

Born on September 20, 1926, in Providence, Rl, she was the precious daughter of the late Norman and Alice (Shaw) Paasche. Her life was a tapestry of love, resilience, and joy woven through nearly a century of cherished moments and loving connections.

Justine's early years were spent in Providence and Bonnet Shores. She graduated from the Mary C. Wheeler School in 1945. It was there that she laid the foundation for a life characterized by intelligence and grace. In 1947, she married the love of her life, John "Jack" Greenwell, in a beautiful ceremony that marked the beginning of their 63-year journey together. Their marriage was a testament to true partnership, filled with love, laughter, the shared passion of golf, the company of their many beloved German Shepherds and her cherished black cat, Lily.

Her professional life was rich and varied. Justine spent many years working in the optical business before transitioning to restaurant management, where she found her calling as the assistant manager of the Larchwood Inn in Wakefield, RI. Her career was marked by dedication and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

Justine and Jack were members of the Wannamoisett Country Club in Rumford, where they shared many joyful hours on the golf course and with friends. Justine was an active and long-time member of St. Peter's-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Narragansett, where her faith and fellowship were central to her life. She was a master bridge player and a proud member of the American Contract Bridge League.

In 1971, Justine and Jack built their dream home on the shores of Indian Lake in Wakefield. It was there that they created a sanctuary filled with warmth and hospitality. They were longtime members of The Dunes Club in Narragansett, where they loved bringing family and friends to the beach and attending the annual Seafood Buffet. There, she also continued to enjoy her passion for bridge. Even as she moved to Brightview Commons in her later years, Justine continued to embrace life with enthusiasm, enjoying bridge, knitting, crossword puzzles, trips to Brickley's for coffee ice cream sodas, and the simple pleasure of an evening glass of red wine.

Predeceased by her beloved husband Jack, her dear brother Norman Shaw Paasche, and her devoted parents, Justine leaves behind a legacy of love in her surviving family members. She is remembered with deep affection by her daughters, Sandra (Patrick) Whitehouse and Jacquelyn (Vincent) Montemarano; her grandchildren, Christopher (Amanda) Whitehouse, Keri (Cory) Pike, Lindsay Whitehouse, Laura Hitchmoth, Eric (Julie) Montemarano, Nicholas (Erica) Montemarano, and Michael Montemarano; and her 11 great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her life.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff at Brightview Commons Senior Living in Wakefield, RI, for the devoted care and concern they showed Justine, along with her family over the past five years.

They also wish to thank HopeHealth Hospice of Rhode Island for their compassionate care during her last month.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 10:30AM in St. Peter's-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, 72 Central St, Narragansett, RI 02882. Burial to follow at 2PM in Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Blvd, Providence, RI 02906.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Justine's honor may be made to Stand Up For Animals (SUFA) in Westerly or HopeHealth Hospice in Providence. As we bid farewell to a remarkable woman, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and an enduring legacy of cherished memories.
