Judith B. Defeo

March 13, 1931 — October 6, 2016

Judith Ann (Brooker) DeFeo, also known as, “Mrs. D” or “Gram D” of South Kingstown, RI passed away peacefully on October 6, 2016 after a lengthy illness. Born in Hamilton, Ontario Canada, she was the daughter of Leo and Dorothy Brooker. For the last 59 years she lived on the family’s Curtis Corner Road Farm in Peace Dale, RI where she raised her family. Judy met her husband John at Purdue University. After graduating with a BS in Animal Husbandry, they were married and set off for Pittsburgh, PA. After two short years, they moved to RI. Judy enjoyed the greatest of professions- a housewife and mother. To say that she was active in the community and church is an understatement. Judy proudly served many organizations with tons of energy and a can do attitude: Girls Scouts of RI – Cookie Chair, Boy Scouts of RI – Den Leader, RI 4H and RI Dairy Goat Assn, Heifer Project Intl, F.I.S.H, Seniors Helping Others, So. Co. Blue Devils Pop Warner Football, SKHS Boosters, and South Kingstown School Committee. She also was an active member of the National, Rhode Island State, Washington County Pomona, and Richmond #6 Granges. She also spent many summers volunteering at the Washington County Fair. Along with working in the community, Judy was also active serving Christ the King Church as part of the money counters, as a bereavement committee chairman, Pre-Cana, Marriage Encounter, and Lector. Judy loved reading to the children at West Kingston Elementary School. Her personal interests included local bowling leagues, avid baker, theatre/concert goer, and gardener. Judy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 42 years, Dr. John J. DeFeo. She is survived by her eight children, all of whom she loved dearly. Her children are Peter and his wife Jeanne, Kathryn and her husband Gerry Earabino, Judy and her husband Edward Emilianowicz, John and his wife Monica, Mary and her husband Gary Cottrell, Jean and her husband Michael McCullough, Daniel, and Leo and his wife Jennifer. Judy is also survived by her loving 18 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. The funeral will be 8:45 am Tuesday from the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Christ the King Church, 180 Old North Road, Kingston. Burial will be private. Visiting hours are Monday, 4-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, please offer a donation to a charity of your choice or Hope Hospice who cared for Judy, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
