Joyce Ellen Towne

Joyce Ellen Towne, 84, of Narragansett, passed away Wednesday. Born in Bremerton, Washington she was a daughter of the late William Howard and Jesse Edith (Wardwell) Phelps. Mrs. Towne lived on the West Coast for most of her life until moving to Narragansett 4 years ago. She was a self-employed Nanny and she raised and cared for 47 children, including her two daughters. She was a former Girl Scout Leader and was very active in her community, as her daughters were growing up. She is survived by two daughters, Susan Gonzalez and her husband Ed of Narragansett and Karen Green and her husband David of Sacramento, CA; a granddaughter, Alexis Hart of Sacramento, CA; and two great-grandchildren, Lucas Isaac Von Hagel and Eli Jackson Horn. She was the sister of the late John Phelps and William Phelps. Funeral services are private.
