With profound grief and sadness we announce the passing of Joyce (Libera Capalbo) Shiels loving and devoted wife, mother, nana and friend to all whose lives she touched, on July 14, 2021. She was born in South Kingstown, she was the daughter of the late Domenic Capalbo and Lena Guglielmelli Salerno and is preceeded in death by her two siblings Domenic and Dennis. She was the wife of Robert E. Shiels, they were married for 53 wonderful years and Wakefield has always been her home. She graduated from South Kingstown high school and then the University of Rhode Island, after which she became a home economics teacher employed at Wheeler High School in the state of Conn. Her and Rob were married in 1968 first making their home in Westerly, RI and then later in Hope Valley RI until returning to South Kingstown to her late parents’ home in 2002. Joyce was the rock of our family and light of our lives, she would light up the room with her infectious laughter and was kind to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. She had an everlasting love for her family and friends and their happiness and health was the most important thing to her. She worked for many years after teaching in catering where she could show her love for all people through food, entertaining and making sure everyone always had whatever they needed. She was always doing anything she could to put others first and help anyone who was in need. Joyce and Rob were always actively involved in their kids’ lives as avid supporters of sports and booster programs during their youth and then later always supporting all their grandkids. Nothing made her happier than a holiday at their home with her family and an abundance of love…which she always showed through all of the delicious food she prepared for everyone to enjoy. We will miss her more than any words we can ever express…she was the best person we all knew. She is survived by her husband Robert Shiels of Wakefield, her four loving children Christopher (Jen) Michael (Brittney), Matthew (Francesca), Dominique and her 3 grandchildren Spencer, Brody and Mia as well as her nephew David (Gina) and her great nephew Antonio and great niece Maria. She also had many lifelong friends who were family such as Camella Thomas, Ann Marie Viera and Stefanie Johnson.
