Joyce A. Mcgovern

Joyce A. (Godin) McGovern, 65, of Narragansett died July 6, 2018 surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness. Joyce was the beloved wife of Mark S. McGovern for more than 36 years. Joyce was born in Providence a daughter to the late Roger and Marie (Heffernan) Godin. Joyce is survived by her niece Kristen, husband Ralph Liguori and their three children, Nicholas, Allison, and Jonathan of Cumberland and Narragansett, R.I. Joyce is also survived by her nephew Thomas, wife Cristi DeCotis and their son Reid of Hingham, MA. Joyce was pre-deceased by her loving sister, Joan M. DeCotis of Cumberland, R.I. Joyce was a graduate and employee of Johnson & Wales University. She taught Fashion and Retail Management for 38 years. Much of that time at the Retail Training Laboratory known as Gladdings at the Arcade in Providence. Joyce and her sister Joan were inseparable. In 2014, Joyce retired to start a Foundation, after her sisters death from lung cancer. She and family members formed the Joan DeCotis Foundation for Lung Cancer Research, whose mission is to raise funds to support lung cancer clinical trials. A caring and compassionate person, Joyce will be remembered for her love of family, friends, and fun. Joyce was a member of many organizations and a longtime member of The Dunes Club in Narragansett, R.I. Calling hours will be held Thursday, July 12th from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home 88 Columbia Street Wakefield RI. A concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 864 Pt. Judith Road, Narragansett, RI on Friday, July 13th at 10:00am. Family and friends are requested to go directly to the church. Burial will be at St. Francis Cemetery, George Schaffer St, Peace Dale, RI.
