Joseph Jupe Scuncio, Jr.

December 29, 1927 — February 15, 2015

Joseph “Jupe” Scuncio, Jr., 87 of Peace Dale, died Sunday. He was dearly loved by his wife Audrey F. (McAuliffe) Scuncio for 63 years. Born in Providence he was a son of the late Joseph Sr., and Vincenza (Lanni) Scuncio and was a graduate of La Salle Academy in Providence. Mr. Scuncio was the owner of Scuncio Motors in Peace Dale, and was the first Subaru Dealer in the State of Rhode Island. He served honorably in the United States Navy after World War II. He was a die-hard New York Yankee Fan and he enjoyed playing golf. Besides his wife, he is survived by three children, Terese Marie Scuncio of Narragansett, Joseph “Chuck” Scuncio of Narragansett, and Amy Elizabeth Sawyer of Charlestown; four grandchildren, Nicole Gordon, Erica Gordon, Marnee Scuncio, and Kyle Adams; seven great-grandchildren, Nadia Luis, Christopher Luis, Trenton Scuncio, Naliyah Sampson, Jeffrey Sampson, Gabriel Ferraro, and Grayson Gordon; two brothers, John Scuncio of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Edward L. Scuncio of North Providence; and two sisters, Mary Coppola of Providence and Jane A. Rudis of Smithfield. He was the brother of the late Dorothy Moretti. A funeral service will be held at 11 am Saturday in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield. Burial will take place in the spring in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours are Friday, 5-8 pm.
