Joseph R. Jay Ryter

September 24, 1986 — August 4, 2013

Joseph R. "Jay" Ryter, 26 years young passed away unexpectedly at home in New Orleans on Sunday. Born in Providence, he was a son of Dr. Richard J. and Marcia E. (Houlker) Ryter of Cranston and South Kingstown. Jay was educated in East Greenwich through Junior High and was an extremely gifted athlete who served as team captain for all three teams he competed on; soccer, baseball, and basketball. Thereafter Jay attended Moses Brown School and again took the leadership role as captain of their basketball team. Jay was also an active member of the community as he served as a lifeguard in South Kingston for 5 years. New Orleans became home for Jay while he attended Loyola University and focused his studies in Marketing and Finance. Jay's exuberance for life lead to formulate friendships in every part of his life. Always an avid golfer, Jay pursued a career in golf at English Turn Golf & Country Club in Louisiana. Besides his parents, Jay is survived by his sister Amelia and her husband Mark Nihill of Bethesda, Maryland; as well as his endearing cousins and loving aunts and uncles. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Thomas More Church, 53 Rockland Street, Narragansett. Burial will be private. Visiting hours are at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, Friday 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a gift in Jay's memory can be made to the Moses Brown School., 250 Lloyd Avenue, Providence, RI 02906.
