Joseph R. Masson, of Narragansett and formerly of Providence, passed away on February 12, 2024.
Predeceased by his adored wife of 60 years, Claire, he is survived by his children Lynn and Jay, his daughter-in-law Maureen, his grandchildren Reagan and Kevin, his godchildren Deborah Gaffney and Rev. Robert Forcier, as well as his nieces and nephews.
Born in Providence to the late John Henry and Frances Masson, he joined his late brother Jack. After graduating from Mt. Pleasant High School, he signed on with the US Navy during WWII. He was brought back from inactive reserves for the Korean War. He graduated from Bryant College with a degree in Finance. He was employed by Textron, Robinson Green & Beretta, and the Rhode Island Lottery until his retirement.
Joe would probably say the most important day of his life was when he married Claire. He was the epitome of the family man. He volunteered at his kids’ schools, was a trustee at St. Pius Church where he was a daily communicant and served as Chairman of the Providence School Committee. Joe believed that every child deserved a quality education. Conveniently, he also believed in meeting his old friends for an amber colored beverage on Friday nights.
Joe was an inspiration to all. He was smart, funny and loyal. He could build anything or at least figure out how it should be. He believed that everyone was deserving of respect. When faced with adversity, he said he was luckier than most. He never complained. He was inspirational in how he enjoyed his life, treasured his wife Claire and took such pleasure in the simple company of friends and family.
Joe Masson-a good guy. He will be remembered fondly.
