Joseph P. Mahoney, 92, formerly of Broad Rock Road, died Saturday. He was the beloved husband of Pauline (Ferguson) Mahoney for 70 years. Born in Lenox, MA he was one of thirteen children of the late John and Ellen (Walsh) Mahoney. Mr. Mahoney was a civil service employee at the Quonset Naval Air Station until its closing, but continued working at Quonset Point for Electric Boat. He served with the US Navy during WW II, enjoyed walking the sea wall in Narragansett with his wife, was an avid Red Sox fan and will be remembered as the life of the party, telling jokes and singing at many family functions. Besides his wife he is survived by a daughter, Lisa Ryan and her husband Edward Jr. of Rutherford, New Jersey; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Edward III, Joseph and Matthew Ryan. He was the father of the late Michael Mahoney. The funeral will be 9 AM Thursday at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 114 High Street, Wakefield. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, East Greenwich. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
